I’m Stephen Scholes, and my academic and professional ambition is to better understand, secure and enhance curriculum, pedagogy, and leadership in Scottish schools and beyond. I have particular research interests aligned to this ambition in religious education, history of education, school inspection, death education, education governance and policy, and (initial) teacher education and professional learning.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Education at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, and I was previously a Lecturer and Programme Leader at the University of Glasgow. Before joining higher education, I held leadership and teaching posts in Scottish secondary schools and continue to hold full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

This site aims to be a place to share my work and connect with other practitioners, policy-makers, researchers (including prospective postgraduate students), and the wider public.
